You may consider the entire organisation, or an individual business unit (Equipment Sales Department or After-Sales Service Department)

Select “The Modified Terry Hill’s Framework” (as attached) as a basis and develop an Operations Strategy for a part of the organisation which you have chosen. At the same time use your answer to compare and contrast with the existing operation to critique it and make recommendations. Give details of the reasoning for each decision made in the formulation. You may select a range of topics or areas covered in the Module for greater levels of investigation and analysis, if you feel that they are greater relevance. If some aspects of the framework are not appropriate for your chosen organisation, explain why this is so and modify the framework appropriately. (50 marks)

You are to produce a report that analyses how this Operations Strategy aligns with the overall Corporate Strategy and hence the organisation Operational efficiency and effectiveness at meeting Customer Requirements. Discuss the manner in which the organisation has formulated and aligned it’s Operational Strategy and hence structured its Operations to address the issues it faces in order to supply the goods and/or services its customers demand, and satisfy their requirements.

Finally you should make up a series of recommendations. These should either be recommendations of how the organisation could improve its operations, or what aspects are so good that it would be an advantage for other organisations to benchmark against and adopt the same practices.

Critically analyse the main performance measures in use in the above company or department, with particular reference to those against which you are measured. Recommend and justify changes, where necessary, to align with the strategy you have formulated. (20 marks)

You MUST Analyse the Organisation in terms of the 5 Performance Objectives (as attached), to identify the Operational Priorities.

Finally you should make up a series of recommendations. These should either be recommendations of how the organisation could improve its operations, or what aspects are so good that it would be an advantage for other organisations to benchmark against and adopt the same practices.

Overall as a practical report you must think of it as being useful to other people, imagine you are a manager being given this report and told to go away and implement its findings. Could you do so? Is it comprehensible? Would you understand the problems, and the solutions and what impact they would have and how to implement them. If you were a manager giving the report to someone else to implement, in the same way would they understand what, how and why?

The recommendations as with all assertions that you make as a result of you analysis should be backed up with supporting evidence and a discussion of why they should be implemented, what advantages would they have for the organisation if implemented. Also be specific about what and how they should be implemented. Avoid bland generic statements, these are of no help. What aspects are key, how would you implement it specifically why etc.

This is also an academic report so it should have the relevant academic underpinning. You need to use academic models, and references.
